Motril is a Spanish city and municipality located in the central part of the Costa Granadina region, in the province of Granada, autonomous community of Andalusia. On the shores of the Mediterranean Sea, this municipality borders those of Salobreña, Vélez de Benaudalla, Lujar, Gualchos - Castell de Ferro and Torrenueva Costa. Other nearby towns are Lobres and Caleta-La Guardia.
The municipality of Motril is the southernmost in all of Granada, and includes the population centers of Motril —municipal, regional capital, and seat of its own judicial district—, El Varadero, Carchuna, Calahonda, Puntalón, Playa Granada, Las Ventillas, La Perla, La Garnatilla, Los Tablones and La Chucha.
