Vícar is a Spanish municipality in the province of Almería, in Andalusia. Belonging to the region of Poniente Almeriense, its population amounts to 27,398 inhabitants.
Integrated in the region of Poniente Almeriense, it is located 22 kilometers from the provincial capital. The municipality is crossed by the Autovía del Mediterráneo (A-7) between pK 421 and 429, as well as by the N-340a highway, parallel to the previous one, and by the A-1051 highway, which allows communication with Roquetas de Mar. Its altitude is 288 m above sea level and its distance from the provincial capital, Almería, is 22 kilometres. Its surface area is 64.1 km².
The oldest remains that indicate human presence in the municipality date back to the Bronze Age, belonging to the Argaric culture, which extended throughout much of the Spanish southeast. It is a town surrounded by rocky walls.
The motor of the vicarious economy is intensive cultivation under plastic (greenhouses), which is closely linked to the demographic and economic development of the population from 1950 (657 inhabitants) to 2006 (20,220).
